I'm a software engineer, husband, father, writer, teacher, and generalist. I am on a journey to reconcile the humanities with the world of software engineering, to show how certain principles of this field, seemingly innovative, have actually been known for centuries. I am interested in what it means to know something, and how we can make decisions that bring good results.

I work as a product engineer, primarily in Elixir, JavaScript and React, with over a decade of experience under my belt. I dive into domains I know nothing about and emerge with working software that addresses the real problem. I care more about why than how, which sometimes makes me difficult to work with, but usually means we build the right thing.

I do my best to follow the Rule of Saint Benedict in my private and professional life: a framework for work and attention that has outlasted every productivity trend by about fifteen centuries. My other main influence is Robert Pirsig's seminal exposition on Quality: Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.

My writing is usually informed by repeated experience: when I see the same problems repeated in multiple places, and I find myself saying the same thing in unrelated situations, that's often an indication of an underlying pattern to be exposed and analysed.

I was born and live in Poland with my wife and a young daughter. I speak a few languages, and once completed one novel that was never published. In my spare time I walk, read, write, code, game and travel. Everything on this blog is my own personal opinion and doesn't necessarily reflect the views of my business partners or employers.
